ifm spotted: Robot "Daisy" disassembles Apple devices into individual components
Used devices that have been returned to Apple can be completely disassembled thanks to the new disassembly robot "Daisy": Aluminium, copper, cobalt, tin, gold and palladium are recycled. And the best about this: "Daisy" is equipped with many ifm sensors.
Since 2007, Apple has released a new version of the iPhone every year and many people cannot wait to get hold of the latest technology. But what happens to the old smartphone? Used devices that have been returned to Apple can be completely disassembled thanks to the new disassembly robot "Daisy": Aluminium, copper, cobalt, tin, gold and palladium are recycled.
"Daisy" is not the first disassembly robot presented by Apple: "Daisy's" predecessor "Liam" was specialised in disassembling the iPhone 6: Since 2016, "Liam" disassembled 1.2 million iPhones 6 on average. Now, technology has advanced – and "Daisy" is even more efficient than "Liam": The robot disassembles 200 iPhones per hour - regardless of the model. This amounts to 1.75 million iPhones per year.
"Daisy" is equipped with many ifm sensors, e.g. cylinder sensors that detect the end position on piston rods.
