Certification of ifm’s environmental management
Since 2020 ifm's environmental management at the Essen, Tettnang-Bechlingen and Wasserburg sites has been externally certified or validated according to EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme).
In addition to the sites which have already been certified for three years, the other sites of the ifm group of companies at Lake Constance and in Rosenheim have now been added. After the successful re-certification the certificates were handed over today.
EMAS is based on the European Eco Audit Regulation EC No. 1221/2009, it contains all the requirements of international standard ISO 14001 and even goes beyond them in some areas. For example, EMAS offers the advantage of legal certainty through verification by environmental verifiers. EMAS organisations are also required to publish an environmental statement with a specified minimum content, such as a description of their environmental activities or environmental performance indicators.
The audits at the various sites took place in March and were completed with very good results. For the certified sites, the auditors attested that their environmental management was compliant with the relevant standards, that there were no signs of non-compliance with the applicable environmental regulations and that the environmental statement reflected an accurate and faithful picture of all activities. Over the next few years, ifm plans to introduce a certified environmental management system at all of its international sites and to have all of its global production sites certified to ISO 14001.
