Vacuum pressure sensors

ifm offers a wide range of vacuum pressure sensors to meet the requirements of various industrial applications. The ceramic-capacitive measuring cell, tried and tested millions of times, is complemented by a stainless steel measuring cell with thin-film or thick-film wire strain gauges (series PK, PV, PT) and a piezoresistive measuring technique (for pneumatic applications).

What is a Vacuum Pressure Sensor?

A vacuum pressure sensor is a device used to detect and monitor pressures that are lower than atmospheric pressure, commonly referred to as vacuum or negative pressure. These sensors are essential in applications where maintaining a controlled vacuum environment is critical, such as in pneumatic systems, packaging machinery, and vacuum handling. By converting the mechanical deformation caused by pressure changes into an electrical signal, vacuum pressure sensors allow for precise control and automation in various industrial processes.

How does a vacuum sensor work

Vacuum pressure sensors  operate by detecting pressure differences within a system. Inside the sensor, a diaphragm flexes in response to changes in vacuum pressure. This mechanical movement is then converted into an electrical signal, which corresponds to the level of vacuum present. These sensors are commonly used in applications such as pneumatic systems, packaging machinery, and vacuum-based material handling. Many modern vacuum sensors feature robust, compact designs with no moving parts, making them highly resistant to vibration and wear. They may offer digital or analogue outputs and include user-friendly displays for real-time pressure monitoring.

Our Vacuum Pressure Sensor Technology

Wide Application Range
ifm offers a wide range of vacuum pressure sensors designed to meet the diverse requirements of industrial environments. These include sensors using ceramic-capacitive measuring cells, stainless steel measuring cells with thin-film or thick-film wire strain gauges (PK, PV, PT series), and piezoresistive measuring techniques, particularly suited for pneumatic applications.

Durability and Maintenance-Free Operation
All sensors are constructed with robust housings and do not rely on moving parts such as pistons or springs. This design ensures exceptional resistance to shock and vibration while enabling wear-free and maintenance-free operation.

Reliable and Stable Measurements
The ceramic-capacitive measuring cell has been proven millions of times for its corrosion resistance and long-term stability, offering consistent accuracy. These sensors are also highly resistant to dynamic pressure spikes, making them suitable for demanding environments involving rapid valve movements or pressure surges.

Compact and Safe Designs
Sensors with thick-film wire strain gauges on stainless steel measuring cells are notable for their compact, robust design. They are suitable for almost any industrial application. The welded, seal-free stainless steel cell ensures a high level of safety, especially in systems exposed to high pressures (up to 600 bar) or aggressive substances such as refrigerants in HVAC systems.

These features make ifm’s vacuum pressure sensors reliable, precise, and suitable for long-term use in even the harshest industrial conditions.

Solutions that are tailored to your needs

ifm offers a comprehensive selection of vacuum sensors tailored for diverse industrial applications. Each sensor features a durable housing and is designed without moving parts like pistons or springs, ensuring they are highly resistant to shock and vibration. These maintenance-free sensors operate without wear, guaranteeing longevity and reliability in modern industrial environments.

Furthermore, ifm's vacuum sensors are designed to meet the specific needs of a wide range of industries, including Hygienic, Hydraulic oils, Water based media, Gases and compressed air, Mobile hydraulics and more.
