Farsighted: the ifm radar distance sensor
The R1D sensor excels where other technologies reach their limits, as it can detect targets with millimetre precision both at close range and at distances of up to 50 metres. With its focus radar beam, it can even detect objects with poor reflective characteristics. The robustness against environmental influences makes the R1D perfect for outdoor applications, and the intuitive configuration via the Vision Assistant software reduces set-up time and cost.
Applications for radar distance sensors
The R1D sensor does not only measure the distance but also the velocity of objects. Both values can be output simultaneously via IO-Link. The radar sensor also offers excellent distance resolution, enabling it to distinguish between closely spaced objects in order to output them as separate targets.
Conveyor monitoring
Non-contact, simultaneous detection of the loading height and speed of a conveyor belt
Vehicle positioning
Detection of vehicles in car wash systems or during docking operations of belt-loaders
Distance control and height measurement
Reliable measurement of ground and crop distance even in dusty environments
Setting up the R1D
Setting up the sensor is easy using the moneo and Vision Assistant software tools. The Vision Assistant outputs all detected objects and clearly visualises them with their corresponding process data, such as distance, speed, and reflected echo signal.
