Benefits of vibration diagnostics with IO-Link

Increase machine uptime, reduce maintenance costs

IO-Link technology simplifies the setup process of the vibration sensor and its integration into existing control platforms or higher-level IT systems. Using unscreened standard cables, process, parameter and diagnostic data are digitally transmitted without loss to an IO-Link master, from where they are distributed to higher-level systems. This allows you to easily increase your machine uptime, reduce maintenance and servicing costs and improve your machine and process quality in the long term.

Benefits of IO-Link at a glance:

  • Easy integration into industrial Ethernet systems, no control cabinet or extensive wiring required
  • Seamless transfer of process, event and diagnostic data
  • Remote access to sensor parameters via IT structure

Comprehensive frequency detection for early damage detection

VVB simultaneously detects the characteristic values v-RMS, a-RMS, a-Peak, crest and temperature, which are all important indicators of potential machine problems. The vibration velocity value v-RMS is standardised in ISO 10816 and a measure of the energy the machine is subjected to.

Bearing damage, rubbing processes, friction or cavitation generate high-frequency and very low-energy vibrations, especially at an early stage of damage. They are not covered by the frequency range defined in the ISO and do not affect v-RMS until a more advanced stage is reached. Here, the peak (a-peak) and effective (a-RMS) values of the vibration acceleration are advantageous, as they change early due to such damages and thus make them visible.

Detailed fault analysis thanks to raw data capture

The characteristic values alone are not sufficient? You would like to perform a more in-depth damage analysis?
The sensor can provide raw vibration data as a binary large object (BLOB) on request or when triggered by an event at the switching output. These can also be easily accessed via IO-Link. The BLOB recording interval lasts 4 seconds. After the internal recording, the system transmits the data during several minutes (depending on COM2 or COM3) to higher-level systems.

Machine operating hours counter

Would you like to capture the actual operating time of your machine?
With the VVB sensor this can be done in the blink of an eye. It monitors the actual operating time of the machine using the vibration parameter v-RMS. All you need to do is configure a threshold in the sensor. When v-RMS exceeds this threshold, the exceeded time is accumulated. In addition, a counter records the number of times the threshold is exceeded. This means that every operation cycle of the machine can be indirectly detected by the sensor. The sensor can transmit both characteristic values to the controller or a higher-level IT system at any time.
