ifm has developed a new generation of 3D Smart Sensors to further increase the level of automation of mobile machines and achieve even greater efficiency.

The PMD 3D sensor from ifm detects scenes and objects three-dimensionally with only one image capture. This avoids the motion blur that can occur with line scanners.

Valuable O3M packages

There are plenty of good use cases for the O3M 3D sensor for mobile applications. Efficient protection against collisions is provided, for example, by the 3D collision warning set that contains all the necessary components for easy installation. The I/O module package is available for use of the O3M on machines without CAN bus.

Line guidance

Automatic swath detection and line guidance for agricultural machinery.

Distance control

By monitoring a pre-defined area, the 3D sensor can indicate the distance to an object in three dimensions.

Obstacle detection and collision avoidance

The integrated, automatic object recognition detects up to 20 stationary or moving objects in the path of a construction vehicle.

Distance monitoring

For simple distance tasks, the 3D Smart Sensor offers an integrated distance monitoring function with up to 64 selectable regions of interest.

Edge detection

With more than 1,000 individual measurements, the robust 3D sensor detects the mowing edge, thus ensuring precise and constant guidance.

3D sensors for mobile applications

The O3M is a photoelectric 3D sensor which measures the distance between the sensor and the nearest surface point by point using the time-of-flight principle. The unit illuminates the scene with an external infrared light source and calculates the distance by means of the light reflected from the surface.
