Increasing the efficiency of port operations
Automation and connectivity of the future
With increased global trade and growing demands from customers regarding global logistics services, there is a need to maximise the operational efficiency of ports. The overwhelming majority of intercontinental trade in goods is conducted by sea. This is why container ports play a decisive role in the international supply chain. Everything in container handling must be done safely and without delays, otherwise the tight schedule of the global logistics chain participants cannot be maintained.
Increasing automation and condition monitoring of critical port assets is indispensable in order to save costs and time and remain reliable and competitive. We offer targeted and safe solutions for any port application, which are aimed at precisely these requirements.
Benefits of our automation solutions
In order to increase the operational efficiency of ports, connecting onshore and offshore participants is becoming increasingly important. This requires a reliable exchange of data between all parties, but also for condition monitoring of critical assets. Ports will have to become smarter, which is why digitalisation is growing in importance. We offer system solutions based on intelligent sensors that are not only reliable, but also support data transfer up to the cloud level for smooth port operations.
Availability: IO-Link sensors transmit data from port systems and machines to higher-level systems. For example, damage to port equipment can be detected early to achieve higher equipment uptime. |

Cost reduction: Disruptions to port operations are not only costly for port operators, but for all participants in the logistics chain. Downtime of port equipment due to e.g. mechanical wear can be detected at an early stage and thus avoided. Monitoring systems equipped with precise sensor technology can detect bearing damage, imbalance, etc. and transmit this data digitally via IO-Link, which helps prevent high costs caused by downtimes. |

Reliability: With more than 50 years of experience, we know how to achieve maximum uptime of cranes, spreaders, reach stackers, straddle carriers, or AGVs. These special purpose vehicles are exposed to extreme shock and vibration and environmental conditions at coastal locations – precipitation and strong sun, wind and salty air. Sensors and control systems from ifm provide protection rating IP68/ IP69K against the ingress of oil or water as well as shock and vibration resistance up to 120g in a temperature range from -40 to 85°C. Excellent EMC compatibility combined with digital data transmission via IO-Link ensure trouble-free recording and transmission of all relevant machine data. Of course, all relevant approvals are available. |
