Actuator-Sensor Interface (AS-i)
The AS-i gateways control the data exchange to the sensor/actuator level and communicate rapidly with the superior control level. They can be used as independent, decentralised controllers or as gateways to all common fieldbus systems. The range includes interfaces with EtherNet/IP, PROFIBUS, PROFINET, EtherCAT or CANopen.
Actuator-Sensor interface (AS-i) applications and benefits
The AS-i protocol simplifies the wiring process and improves operational efficiency. It's common in automation and safety at work applications. AS-i fulfills the need for a standardized communication system that seamlessly networks various field devices, particularly over long distances.
The components of the actuator-sensor interface system enable seamless data exchange by reducing wiring complexity and enhancing system efficiency. As a result, the AS-i protocol saves the user a great number of terminals, splitter boxes, input/output cards and cable lines.
That makes it a cost-effective solution for interface networks with different devices such as sensors, actuators, and other field devices.

What is AS-i?
AS-Interface, often abbreviated as AS-i, is a manufacturer-independent industrial networking standard connecting actuators and sensors of the first field level. It streamlines the integration of sensors and actuators with a control system.
AS-i bus system setup and AS-i protocol
This AS-i bus system uses a two-wire flat cable to carry power and data. The AS-i gateways control the data exchange to the sensor/actuator level. They communicate rapidly with the higher level control system. They can be used as independent, decentralized controllers or as gateways to all common fieldbus systems.
Components
The AS-interface master serves as the central hub for AS-i communication. It acts as a gateway between the AS-i network and other fieldbus systems. This setup ensures smooth data transmission and controls signal flow.
An AS-interface master is characterized by its robust design and advanced features, ensuring secure and reliable network communication.
The AS-i controller monitors and controls the connected actuators and sensors. It receives instructions from the master, processes the data, and triggers appropriate actions based on predefined parameters.
AS-i controllers are compact, durable, and easy to integrate. They're suitable for a wide range of industrial applications.
AS-i cables provide the physical connection between the master, controllers, and actuators/sensors, offering reliable data transfer and power supply capabilities.
These cables are color-coded for easy identification and come in various lengths to meet different installation requirements.
A power supply unit consistently supplies power the AS-i network. This unit converts the available power source into the required voltage and current levels for the AS-i components. It provides a stable power output, preventing disruptions and ensuring consistent network performance.
