ifm's Obstacle Detection System is an RBR50 award recipient
05.28.2024 - Leading up to the 2024 Robotics Summit & Expo, The Robot Report announced its 2024 recipients of the RBR50 awards. We are honored to announce that ifm's Obstacle Detection System (ODS) software is an RBR50 winner this year.
Every year, the Robot Report selects 50 new products or solutions that have made a significant impact in the Robotics industry. The Robotics Innovation awards 2024 include ifm's newest software solution for autonomous mobile robots: the Obstacle Detection System.
What is Obstacle Detection System software?
This is the first off-the-shelf obstacle detection solution that is designed to integreate seamlessly with other technologies and software systems. The goal is to reduce obstacle detection programming time for robotics manufacturers, so that they can spend more time developing their core IP. By reducing the friction around obstacle detection, ifm aims to reduce AMR collisions with equipment, in order to increase ROI for endusers by increasing the number of completed missions per robot. This innovative software solves for false positives and floor segmentation, making it easier than ever for mobile robots to avoid objects in their path, and safely navigate around them without reducing throughput.
The O3R robotic perception platform
The ODS software is designed to function on the ifm O3R robotic perception platform - a hardware solution (and 2022 RBR50 winner) that also solves for many common points of friction in mobile robotics. The platform was designed with a specific focus on mobile robots. It recognizes the significance of multi-camera, multi-modal use cases. We understand that the primary challenge is not with any one individual camera, but in the seamless integration of multiple cameras to address complex issues. The O3R robotic perception platform was designed to simplify these issues by consolidating perception, computation, and solutions into a unified platform, thereby facilitating effortless integration and maintenance. The ODS software solution is available for use with the ifm O3R hardware platform, which easily integrates into the most common mobile robot controls architecture.
