Setting the IP address for IO-Link Masters: Video and transcript

Transcript:

This video will instruct you on setting up the IP address of ifm’s IO link masters using the LR device software.

First, connect the master to a PC using an ethernet cable and supply the master with 24 volt power. If you are working with an Ethernet IP master, make sure the IP address of the PC is in the same domain as the IO link master.

By default, the Masters IP address is set to 192.168.1.250. You can change the PC's IP address in the network and sharing center. Click on the change adapter settings, Right click on the Ethernet Port Connection and then Click Properties.

Highlight the Internet protocol version four and click on the properties button. Select the use following IP address and then type into the IP field.

The IP is in the same domain as the default for the IO link master and that the last octet does not match. Download the LR device software from the ifm website.

The free software allows parameterization of the IO link master. Another option is to purchase the license for the full software that will allow you to control the settings of sensors attached to the masters.

This will be covered in a future video. The LR device software interface runs in any standards compliant web browser. After launching, click the first icon in the upper right read device.

This will scan your network for IO link Masters and list all that are found. Once scanned, the IP addresses of the IO link masters appear in the left hand column.

Double click the address of the Master to access the device's parameters. Enter the new address in the IP address field and click the write device icon in the upper right to load the new IP address onto the master.

The software will alert you that the master must be power cycled for the change to take effect. After power, cycling and scanning, the master will display the new IP address.

By default, the ProfiNET version of the IO link masters are set to DHCP so the Mac address will be displayed after scanning.

The same procedure can be used. Keep in mind that a unique name for the device will be needed to identify the master in the PLC.

This concludes this tutorial. Thanks for watching. ifm. close to you.
