What happens if communication is lost to a master and an IO-Link to output device is being used?

The last value provided for an output is held. This means that an analogue output on a DP will hold the last value or a switching output will stay “ON”. How can this be avoided?

With default settings the last value output from the DP would be held,
however you can set the "fail-safe" mode for IO-link communication to “reset value” (value of 1 in the configuration assembly) for any port, and this will cause the signal to drive to zero if communications are lost to the master. See example below:

In the PLC, this would be done in the configuration assembly for whatever port number the DP is connected to (port 6 in the example below with an AL1422 model IO-Link master).
