BEUMER Group relies on 3D sensors from ifm in their high-speed baggage handling systems to ensure the high efficiency and error-free performance.
With its autover® Independent Carrier System, the BEUMER Group offers the right solution for the daily challenges of baggage handling. Intelligent transport vehicles are driven by contactless power transmission and routes each checked bag to its correct destination. This system is in use at major airport hubs in Dubai, Moscow, Nice, Gdansk and Montreal. Future hubs are located in Denver and London.
An O3D camera positioned above each conveyor belt detects and measures the dimensions of each checked bag. Using 23,000 pixels arranged in a matrix, the camera detects objects and scenes in three dimensions at a glance. It looks for upright suitcases so they can be properly positioned for transport and it checks for compliance of length, width and height maximums.
With the O3D camera from ifm, the BEUMER Group is able to ensure the correct placement of baggage items at a critical interface – the baggage transfer from the infeed conveyor belt to the independent carrier system. The system can then fully harness its high degree of efficiency to the benefit of the airport operator, the airlines and the passengers.
